The Paperflower Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to removing financial barriers to mental health and related services. We provide funding support so that individuals and families can access the care they need regardless of their insurance status or financial situation.
We support individuals and families who are facing financial barriers to mental health care. This includes people who are uninsured, underinsured, unable to afford copays or deductibles, or whose insurance does not cover the specific services they need.
We have a particular focus on neurodivergent individuals, twice-exceptional children, and families navigating complex mental health needs.
Since we are just launching, priority will be given to individual therapy, medication management appointments and prescriptions.
We plan to fund a wide range of mental health and behavioral health services including:
• individual therapy
• psychiatric evaluations
• medication management
• family therapy
• group therapy
• intensive outpatient programs
• occupational therapy
• psychological or neuropsychological testing
Funding is based on eligibility and available resources.
As a founder-supported initiative, administrative and operational costs are covered independently — meaning every donation goes directly to the people we serve.
You can submit an application! We have a form over at our website: https://www.paperflowerfoundation.org/application(https://www.paperflowerfoundation.org/application)
No.
We are a funding and coordination organization. All clinical services are provided by our licensed partner providers. We do not employ clinicians, supervise treatment, or have any involvement in your clinical care.
No.
We work with clients regardless of their insurance status. Whether you are uninsured, have private insurance with high out-of-pocket costs, or have been denied coverage for a specific service, we encourage you to reach out.
Yes.
Your provider is the one who refers you to us, so they will be aware you are seeking Foundation support. We work directly with your provider for billing and coordination purposes. We do not share your financial information or application details with anyone outside of the Foundation and your provider.
No.
All funding is paid directly to your provider on your behalf. You will not receive a check or cash payment from Paperflower Foundation.
Please let us know.
If you obtain insurance that covers your services, your income increases significantly, or your situation changes in another meaningful way, we ask that you notify us so we can review your funding status. Our goal is to direct resources to those who need them most.
Funding amounts vary based on your situation, your provider's rates, and available Foundation resources. Our team will discuss the specifics with you during the intake process.
Yes.
All information you share with Paperflower Foundation is kept confidential and used only for the purposes of determining eligibility and coordinating funding. We do not sell or share your information. We abide by HIPAA.
No — in fact this is one of the most common reasons families come to us.
Even if you have insurance, a high deductible or expensive copay can make mental health care feel out of reach.
Paperflower Foundation can help cover those out-of-pocket costs so you can access the care you need without waiting until your deductible is met or skipping sessions because of cost. Having insurance does not disqualify you from receiving Foundation support.
Funding is approved on a case-by-case basis and is not open-ended. When your application is approved we will let you know how many sessions or how much funding has been authorized and for what time period.
Funding can be renewed depending on your situation and available Foundation resources. We encourage you to stay in touch with us so we can plan ahead with you rather than having funding lapse unexpectedly.
Yes.
If your funding period ends and you still need support, you or your provider can request a renewal.
We will review your current situation and determine whether continued funding is available. Renewal is not automatic — it requires a brief check-in to confirm your circumstances and that the Foundation has resources available.
Please contact us as soon as you know you are approaching your funding limit — do not wait until it runs out.
The earlier you let us know, the more time we have to review your situation and explore whether additional support is possible. We will always try to work with you to avoid an abrupt interruption in care.
It depends on your situation.
In some cases the Foundation covers the full cost of your sessions. In others the Foundation covers a portion and you may be responsible for a remaining amount. Your provider will let you know what if anything you owe directly.
The Foundation never requires you to pay us — any payment goes to your provider, not to the Foundation.
Yes.
Your provider works directly with the Foundation on billing and will be aware of the funding arrangement. However, your personal financial information — such as your income or application details — is not shared with your provider.
Contact us before switching. Funding is approved for a specific provider and cannot automatically transfer to a new one.
If you want to change providers let us know and we will do our best to work with you on the transition. The new provider would need to be an enrolled Paperflower Foundation partner for funding to continue.
Some higher levels of care are covered by the Foundation but require prior authorization before services begin.
If your provider believes you need a higher level of care, ask them to contact us before starting those services so we can review and authorize funding in advance. Services that begin without prior authorization may not be covered.
Funding availability depends on the Foundation's resources at any given time. We do our best to respond to all referrals promptly and to prioritize urgent situations. If there is a delay in processing your application we will communicate that to you clearly and keep you updated.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis please contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, or go to your nearest emergency room.
Paperflower Foundation is not a crisis service and cannot provide immediate clinical support. Once you are safe, we are here to help you access ongoing care.
Yes.
We serve clients of all ages including children and adolescents. If you are applying on behalf of a minor child a parent or legal guardian will need to sign all intake documents and will be the primary point of contact with the Foundation.
You must live in Arizona and your provider must be located and licensed in Arizona.
No.
We are a nonprofit funding organization. We do not employ therapists or provide clinical services of any kind. All care is delivered by your independent licensed provider. Think of us as the financial bridge between you and the care you need.
Your provider will typically let you know if they work with the Foundation, or you can ask them directly.
If you have a provider you love and they are not yet a partner, encourage them to reach out to us at community@paperflowerfoundation.org — we are always looking to grow our network.
We are happy to help. Reach out to us at info@paperflowerfoundation.org (mailto:info@paperflowerfoundation.org)and we will get back to you as soon as possible. No question is too small.
Yes, we only serve clients in Arizona.
Yes.
We support telehealth services and this is one of the ways we are able to serve clients in many different locations. Your provider must be licensed in the state where you are physically located during your sessions.
If you are seeing a telehealth provider and are unsure whether they are licensed in your state, ask them directly before your first session.
Ask your provider to reach out to us at community@paperflowerfoundation.org (mailto:community@paperflowerfoundation.org)to begin the enrollment process.
Onboarding typically takes one to two weeks depending on how quickly a provider completes their paperwork. We cannot fund services with a provider who has not completed onboarding, so the sooner they reach out, the better.
Yes.
This is exactly the kind of situation we exist to address. Telehealth has made it possible for people in rural and underserved areas to access licensed mental health care without traveling long distances.
If you are having trouble finding a provider in your area contact us and we will do our best to help connect you with an enrolled telehealth provider.
We will do our best.
Let us know your preferred language when you contact us and we will try to connect you with a provider in our network who speaks your language or arrange for communication support during your intake process. Language should never be a barrier when it comes to accessing your care, communicating your needs, and receiving it.
